Why Bookmarks? A Little Love Letter to Books & the Things That Hold Our Place ♡

Vintage blush pink and lace flat lay featuring Katie's original bookmarks and the phrase I believe every book deserves its own outfit

I have loved reading for as long as I can remember. Even as a little girl, there was something special about opening a book and disappearing into another world for a while. Some things really do stay with us, don’t they? ♡

But there’s one thing I’ve never been able to bring myself to do to a book: dog-ear the pages. 😂

I know, I know. Some readers don’t mind folding down a corner to save their place. But me? I would rather hunt down a bookmark—or honestly, almost anything that will work as one—than bend the corner of a page.

One Bookmark Is Never Enough

Maybe that’s how my love of bookmarks grew right alongside my love of books. I don’t just want a bookmark. I like having choices.

And here’s where I admit something that probably won’t surprise anyone who knows me: I like my bookmark to match the book I’m reading. 😂

If I’m wandering through an enchanted forest in a fantasy novel, I want something a little whimsical tucked between those pages. If the story takes me out onto the open sea, well, a pirate bookmark just feels right. And if I’m reading something soft and cozy, I might reach for florals, lace, or an old-fashioned little illustration.

Does the bookmark need to match? Of course not. But does it make me happy when it does? Absolutely. ♡

A Little Piece of the Story

I think that’s what I love most about bookmarks. They have a very practical job—keeping my place and saving those poor page corners—but they can also feel like a tiny extension of the story itself.

There’s something lovely about setting a book down at the end of the night and leaving a little piece of art peeking out, ready to welcome you back when you have time for just one more chapter. (And we all know how dangerous one more chapter can be. 😂)

That love is part of why I enjoy making printable bookmark collections for Rooted in Grace Prints. I get to play with different worlds and moods, and fellow book lovers get to pick whichever little design feels right for their current read.

A Few Favorites From My Bookmark Basket ♡

Since I love choosing a bookmark to suit the book (or my mood!), I thought I’d share three of my favorite printable collections from Rooted in Grace Prints.

Honey Bee Bible Verse Bookmarks 🐝

For quiet mornings, a favorite devotional, or a little reminder of God’s goodness tucked between the pages. These Honey Bee Bible Verse Bookmarks bring together two things I love: sweet, nature-inspired details and meaningful words from Scripture.

Cozy Fall Bookmarks 🍂

For the books that practically beg to be read with a warm drink and a soft blanket. My Cozy Fall Bookmark Collection feels just right for crisp afternoons and all those lovely autumn reading moods—even if it isn’t actually fall outside. 😂

Anne of Green Gables Bookmarks 📖

And for those days when I want to visit a beloved literary world, there’s my Anne of Green Gables Printable Bookmark Collection. Inspired by Anne Shirley and her beautiful imagination, these have the nostalgic, bookish charm I never seem to get tired of. Kindred spirits, anyone? ♡

All three are printable sets, so you can choose a design that fits the next story on your reading pile. And perhaps keep a few extras nearby—because apparently I believe every book deserves its own outfit. 😂

Now I’m curious: are you a one-bookmark-for-everything kind of reader, or do you pick a bookmark to match your book, too? And please tell me I’m not the only one who can’t bear to fold down a page corner. 😂

With love, well-loved books, and an ever-growing pile of bookmarks,
Katie ♡
