I was tired this morning.
Not “I need five more minutes” tired.
More like “please do not make me construct an entire outfit before I’ve had coffee” tired. 😂
So today had one requirement:
Easy.
And this dress understood the assignment.
❧ The One-Piece Outfit ❧
This is exactly why I love having dresses in my closet.
There are mornings when coordinating a top, bottom, belt, layers, and everything else sounds fun.
And then there are mornings like today.
One dress. Zip it up. Done.
Except somehow, this particular dress manages to look like I put considerably more thought into getting dressed than I actually did.
The rich peacock blue is beautiful all on its own, and there are enough little details—the collar, puffed sleeves, smocked waist, full midi skirt, and that long gold zipper—that it really doesn’t need much styling.
It’s comfortable and effortless, but still sophisticated enough for the office.
Basically, it did all the work for me this morning, and I am very grateful. 😂
❧ Peacock Blue & a Little Gold ❧
The color might be my favorite thing about this dress.
It’s not quite navy, not quite teal—just this gorgeous deep peacock blue that feels rich without being too bright.
And then there’s that gold zipper running all the way down the front.
Since the dress already gave me a little bit of gold to work with, I decided to just follow its lead.
I added my gold openwork flower earrings, which are delicate from a distance but actually have the prettiest layered floral design when you see them up close.
No necklace today. The collar, zipper, and earrings already give the top half of the outfit plenty of interest.
And, again…
We were going for easy. 😂

❧ Apparently We Have a Botanical Theme ❧
I pulled my hair into a soft updo this morning and left a couple of pieces loose around my face.
Then I added my gold butterfly hair clip.
I didn’t really think about it when I was getting dressed, but between the flower earrings and the butterfly in my hair, I apparently created a tiny botanical theme without meaning to.
Honestly, those accidental little details are usually my favorite ones.
The butterfly is mostly hidden from the front, too, which makes it feel like a little surprise when I turn around.
And you know I love an outfit with a secret detail. 🦋
❧ Black Mary Janes & Out the Door ❧
For shoes, I went with my black Mary Jane pumps.
They’re classic, they work with the deeper color of the dress, and—most importantly this morning—I didn’t have to stand there debating which shoes worked.
Black Mary Janes.
Done.
Sometimes that’s exactly what I need.
Because here’s the thing: I love putting outfits together. I love bows and flowers and pretty shoes and all those tiny details that can turn getting dressed into something creative.
But I also have mornings when I’m tired.
And I don’t think looking put together should require having endless time or energy.
That’s why pieces like this dress earn their place in my closet.
It’s effortless without looking effortless.
I can zip it up, add earrings and shoes, put my hair up, and somehow walk out the door looking like I had a whole plan.
I absolutely did not have a whole plan. 😂
The dress had the plan.
And this morning, I was perfectly happy to let it.
Today’s outfit: peacock blue collared midi dress with gold zipper and smocked waist, gold openwork flower earrings, gold butterfly hair clip, and black Mary Jane pumps.
Do you have one of those magical pieces in your closet that makes you look put together on the mornings when you absolutely do not feel put together? 💙
