❧ My Phone Voice Is Carrying Me Today ☕ ♡ ❧

Can we talk about the absolute magic that happens when an office phone rings?

Because I swear, there are two completely different versions of me at work.

There’s Regular Me.

Regular Me is sitting at her desk, staring at approximately 47 things that need to be done, wondering if it’s socially acceptable to crawl underneath said desk and take a little nap.

Regular Me has already had coffee. Regular Me is contemplating more coffee. Regular Me is also pretty sure that if she closes her eyes for longer than three seconds, she’s going to wake up sometime next Tuesday.

And then…

RIIIIING. ☎️

Suddenly, out of absolutely NOWHERE:

“Good afternoon! Thank you for calling! How can I help you today?!” 🌸✨

EXCUSE ME?!

Who is she?!

Where did all that enthusiasm come from?!

Because approximately 0.4 seconds ago, this woman was fighting for her LIFE trying not to yawn at her computer screen.

And now she’s practically a Disney princess answering the phone.

❧ The Phone Voice Is a Whole Different Personality ❧

I genuinely think anyone who has ever worked in an office, customer service, or a receptionist position understands this phenomenon.

You could be having the most chaotic day imaginable.

Your inbox is overflowing.

Your to-do list has somehow gotten LONGER despite the fact that you’ve been working on it all morning.

Someone needs something printed.

Someone else needs something fixed.

You’ve answered the same question three times.

Your coffee is either empty or has reached that questionable temperature where you’re not entirely sure you want it anymore.

And your brain has officially checked out for the afternoon.

But the phone rings?

Oh, we’re THRIVING.

Suddenly, you’re cheerful. You’re helpful. You’re enthusiastic.

You sound like you’ve had eight hours of sleep, a balanced breakfast, and a lovely morning walk through a field of wildflowers.

Meanwhile, your actual physical body is being held together by caffeine, a cute outfit, and sheer determination.

It’s honestly impressive.

❧ And Then You Hang Up… ❧

This might be my favorite part.

Because the SECOND that phone goes back down, the transformation reverses.

The smile disappears.

The shoulders drop.

And you stare at your computer like it personally offended you.

Sometimes there’s even a little sigh.

Not because the person calling did anything wrong.

Not because you don’t enjoy helping people.

But because apparently being aggressively delightful for 45 seconds requires an unreasonable amount of energy.

And somehow, even after that, you still manage to do it again.

And again.

And again.

All. Day. Long.

❧ Can We Also Discuss the Accidental Phone Voice? ❧

You know what’s even funnier?

When you’ve been answering phones all day and accidentally use your professional phone voice on someone who knows you.

Your mom calls?

“Good afternoon, thank you for—oh. Hey, Mom.”

Or you answer your personal phone and suddenly sound like you’re representing a Fortune 500 company.

Ma’am.

Please.

You are off the clock.

You do not need to provide award-winning customer service to your own family. 😂

❧ A Little Appreciation for the Office Girls ❧

Jokes aside, I do think there’s something kind of wonderful about the people who manage to stay kind and welcoming even when they’re completely exhausted.

Because sometimes the person on the other end of the phone has no idea what kind of day you’re having.

And for those few seconds, you’re making their day a little easier.

Even if you’re secretly counting down the minutes until you can go home, take off your shoes, and stop being quite so enthusiastic about everything.

There’s a little bit of grace in that, too.

But also?

I think we deserve a medal.

Or a nap.

Preferably both.

❧ Anyway, Back to My Desk… ❧

If you happen to call an office this afternoon and the woman answering sounds suspiciously cheerful, just know there’s a very real possibility she’s sitting there with a half-finished iced coffee, twelve open browser tabs, and approximately one functioning brain cell.

But her phone voice?

Flawless.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go pretend I’m wide awake again.

The phone is ringing. ☎️💕

Tell me I’m not alone in this. Do you have a completely different phone voice, or are you one of those mysterious people who actually sounds the same all day? Because I need answers.
